Little Bird padded around in circles poking and prodding the Low Tide mud. She was Restless, she had been for some time. Her world was Out of her Control and she was spinning on the inside in a hamster-wheel life she didn’t remember choosing.
Little Bird Yearned. For what she did not know, but she could no longer sit still. She imagined she could hear The World Beyond calling to her from across the River. As she paced in circles, mud up to her knobbly backwards-folding bird-knees, she imagined Adventures were calling. Her wings untested, her heart true, Little Bird scrambled to Find her Courage.
“Why leave?” the Other Birds chirped. “Here you are Safe. Here you are Loved. Here you Belong.” Little Bird heard them, she even agreed, but she could not deny something was missing. There were other parts of Herself she needed to meet.
So Little Bird stopped her pacing and looked out to the horizon. The sunlight danced on the eddies and ripples of the constantly-moving water, enticing her to follow shimmering possibilities.
It was time. Little Bird slowly packed up her life and said goodbye to her friends and family. Farewells were had and promises made and so it was, one hot summer evening, she leapt from the Nest, wings trembling, to chase the Promise of Something More.
There was no Plan B. (There wasn’t even really a Plan A).
She simply Trusted in Herself.
