Photography is a way of seeing. To isolate and frame the moments of time and place is a pivotal tool at the start of any of my arts processes. Taking photos helps me become more familiar with the world around me and my place within it. It links me to the environment and challenges and comforts my internal isolation.
Photographic imagery is a method, like drawing, to become familiar with the world in physical and emotional ways. Repetition is a vital part of the creative process for me and it takes time to connect and decode myself and who I am in relation to the world around me.
Observation is integral to my work and my life. People don’t always look, they don’t see the complex and many-layered interactions intertwined around us. These visual observations and interactions are a dance towards understanding. There is so much beauty in the world when you take the time to look and to understand how you connect with it personally.
Each new place is an opportunity to reinvent my relationship with myself and the local community.
