Identity

To care for encaustic artwork, avoid extreme temperatures (both hot and cold), direct sunlight, and moisture. A natural "bloom" or cloudiness is normal and can be restored by gently buffing the surface with a clean, lint-free cloth. Avoid framing under glass, but you can cover the artwork with a protective sheet like wax paper or Glassine for transport or storage. 

Psyche refers to the totality of the human mind, encompassing conscious and unconscious processes. Using medical drawings of the human brain as a scaffold, I have rotated the left and right hemispheres to re-orient the hemispheres above and below. The left and right are now standing in as abstract concepts of the conscious and unconscious aspects of Self.

A very personal and introspective approach, I have populated the space above with various buildings and containers. Holding skills, experiences, relationships and family, this world in the light is multi-faceted and seemingly straightforward. 

However, each building has roots in the unconscious to a greater or lesser degree. Here, the tunnels underneath are murky and less clear. Each building is a container of thought, feeling and desire, a concrete representation of skills, achievements and more abstract periods of growth.

Working with familiar motifs, I am exploring my inner world, seen and unseen, and attempting to untangle the parts of self that make me 'me', including the Freudian id, ego, and superego. This is my seat of consciousness, intelligence, and perception.
