Expanding on the Odyssey Series, this series continues to weave dense emotional and visual compositions as a form of self-interrogation. Using original illustrations, found objects and personal photography, these works explore my emotional and physical transition from coastal NSW inland to the Southern Riverina.
Working with handprinted cyanotypes layered and cut out to build individual works, the artworks are finished with various surface treatments and overworked with pen and ink, acrylic paint and glow-in-the-dark paint. As the works are completed I arrange them together and start to search for meaning in a curated collection. As I reflect on the previous 12-18 months, I start to build the story of my life as I process the milestones I have moved through.
In pulling the works together, primarily through instinct, I am often alerted to key themes I may have obscured from myself. The repeated motifs within the collected works expose, through metaphor and symbolism, unconscious patterns and themes to foster clarity. Some of these motfis include Home, Belonging, Letting Go, the Shadow Self (Moon) Freedom (Birds), Connection and Fate (Red Thread) and more. By decoding the works I gain access to the Deeper, Wilder parts of my psyche and free myself up to move forward on New Adventures, sparking Self-Discovery and Personal Growth.
