Peat Island (2012)

Soon after I moved to Dangar Island I was invited to explore Peat Island and create artwork in response to the environment there. The island had been unused for some years and was an interesting place with some difficult history over many years.

The foreshore on the mainland was covered in Aboriginal rock engravings and the island itself crowded with hulking buildings and a large concrete water tower. I took some images by boat from the river early in the morning, where the light created a dark and eerie mood. This was my first exploration using photography and light to paint the emotions of a place.
