WaterPlay (2018)

This exhibition is an experiment in reinvention - of myself and how I use photography to give voice to the river. I wanted to see the river from a different perspective, to play with more abstract concepts of the river and surroundings.

There are so many familiar images of the river, I wanted to make it unfamiliar. This exhibition included traditional compositions which locate us in the environment and create a sense of place and belonging. I also wanted to contrast these works with unfamiliar perspectives and extended responses - to make the river 'new'.

So, with this in mind I experimented with my iPhone and an underwater camera to look up the river from under the water. These water studies were intentionally abstract in an attempt to subvert the familiar and comfortable relationship I have with my surroundings.
