The Birds (2022)

These little birds are such a joy to make. They have their own personalities and stories and, apart from the basic steps in the process, they have their own ideas about how they like their yellow crests to be styled. I work with different coloured clays to create a variety of birds, mostly cockatoo and magpie but also parrots, herons, brush turkeys and more.

Only small, less than ten centimetres high, the clay bodies are fired and glazed and the wire legs are added afterwards. For something so little they take some time to make but each one is a pure expression of love.
